Introduction
Proctoring in class is essential to ensure fairness, integrity, and reliability in assessments. Without proper oversight, exams risk being compromised by cheating, collaboration, or unauthorized resources, which can undermine the credibility of test results.
Process
- Candidates enter the room and connect to their TASK account
- They can start whenever they want
- Candidates will be locked out after the duration of the assessment is exhausted
Classroom disposition
- Seating Arrangement: Arrange desks to maximize spacing between students. Ideally, students should be seated at least one arm's length apart. Consider alternating rows or using every other seat if space allows. Avoid seating students in direct lines of sight to each other's papers.
- Clear Workspace: Students should clear their desks of all unauthorized materials before the test begins. Only permitted items should be on the desk.
- Visual Obstructions: Minimize visual distractions. Cover or remove any potentially relevant information displayed on whiteboards, posters, or other surfaces
Before the test
- Prohibited Materials: Explicitly state which materials are prohibited (e.g., mobile phones, smartwatches, notes, textbooks, external communication devices).
- Collection of Prohibited Items: Before the test begins, instruct students to turn off and store all prohibited items, such as mobile phones, in a designated area (e.g., at the front of the room or in bags under their chairs).
- Use of keyboard: As TASK is a test that can be carried out without the use of the keyboard, to prevent malicious usage of the device during the test, using the keyboard is prohibited in the test room.
- Terms of Service (ToS): Remind students of the academic integrity policy and the consequences of cheating, plagiarism, or any other form of academic dishonesty. Clearly state that any instances of cheating will result in cancelling the test and potentially further disciplinary action.
- Noise Conditions: Inform students that talking or any form of communication during the test is strictly prohibited. Emphasize the importance of maintaining a quiet environment to avoid disturbing other test-takers. Explain how to ask questions to the proctor (e.g., raising a hand).
- Test Instructions: Provide clear and concise instructions regarding the test format and time limit
- On their laptop
- 1h20
- No communication
- No keyboard allowed
- Restroom Policy: Clearly outline the restroom policy during the test. For example, only one student may leave the room at a time, and they must leave their test on their desk. Consider requiring students to sign out and in. (The timer will continue to run)
Proctors responsibility
- Active monitoring: Proctors must actively monitor the room throughout the entire test duration. This includes:
- Walking around the room frequently and varying their patterns.
- Observing student behavior for any signs of cheating, such as looking at other studentsβ device, using unauthorized materials, or communicating with others.
- Paying attention to body language and eye movements.
- Paying attention to the visual of the students monitors
- Addressing Suspicious Behavior: If a proctor observes suspicious behavior, they should:
- Approach the student discreetly and address the issue privately.
- Document the incident, including the student's name, the time of the incident, and a detailed description of the observed behavior.
- If necessary, confiscate any unauthorized materials.
- Report the incident to Sulitest
